Is Krav Maga the simple solution for your self-defense needs?

It is human nature to look for simple solutions to the most complicated problems with minimal invested effort and time.  In fact, in this high paced world we have come to expect simplicity from everything around us; our cars, gadgets, phones, computers, etc.  We look for them to simplify our lives, make our duties more effortless and ultimately free up our time to pursue other interests.

When it comes to self-defense, people’s expectations are no different.  They want simple, easy to learn, effortless self-defense system that will keep them and their loved ones safe from harm. Krav Maga is marketed as a perfect self-defense solution for the modern world.  The techniques are simple, effective, and stem from intuitive and natural movements.

Krav Maga deals with all aspects of survival; standing, sitting, on the ground, in tight quarters, multiple and armed attackers, and much more.  It relies on skill, techniques and determination rather than size and strength, so nearly all, regardless of their physical attributes, can benefit from it.

So it’s settled then; Krav Maga is a straightforward system of self-defense that is easy to learn and is perfect for the person looking to quickly gain the ability to defend themselves and loved ones with minimal effort and time invested on their end.  Not quite!  Although Krav Maga is comprehensive and its techniques and the principles are very simple to understand and execute, there is nothing simple about training to survive a real life or death situation on a street.

A good Krav Maga school must prepare you physically, technically and mentally to deal with real world violence.   This means your training must include technical work, striking, fighting, grappling, conditioning, aggression drills, stress management, etc.  There is no magic potion that will make you invincible to real-world threats, and no system that will teach you how to, at the snap of your fingers, effectively disable a bigger, stronger attacker committed to taking your life.  Yes, Krav Maga is simple to learn and easy to execute, but it requires dedication, practice, time, hard work, sweat and sometimes blood to be able to learn and use it efficiently in the real world.  The simple rule is: the harder you work in training, the harder Krav Maga works for you.  So although you won’t have to spend a lifetime learning Krav Maga, don’t simply expect to invest a few weeks into your self-defense training and be well equipped to handle a life threatening altercation either.
