Police arrest suspect in series of sexual assaults in San Diego.

After the series of brutal attacks on women in the North Park neighborhood, San Diego Police Department have arrested and jailed a suspect. Click here for the news story.

Six reports of women being attacked in the North Park have surfaced in the last (less than) 3 months. All seem to be potentially linked to the same attacker(s) because of the similarities between them: they happened within a few blocks of each other, they all happened at night, the victims were all women walking alone, all but one of the victims were struck in the face, etc. The first one happened on June 17 and the last one as recently as less than 2 weeks ago, Aug. 28. That is 6 attacks in less than 3 months!!!

And let us add one more, although not necessarily linked to the previous six, that happened just yesterday in the Mission Hills area (to read news story about this event click here)

We commonly see a surge of interest in self-defense training after attacks like these occur in San Diego. And this time was no different. See our previous blog post Self-Defense School in North Park fights back against assaults). It is great to see people are interested in learning how to defend themselves. But why wait until these attacks happen to somebody else or even yourself? All these ladies are lucky that they came out of these attacks, although physically and mentally harmed, they came out alive.
It’s not because a potential suspect is arrested that you should let your guard down. Do we even know if the person arrested is the right person? Let us not forget that in the two of the reports attacks the victims state that there were two attackers. So, does this mean there is potentially another attacker still on the lose that could cause harm to other women?

These attacks opened the eyes of a lot of us to the potential threats that can happen. Even in our own neighborhoods, in our own backyards. Be prepared. Train self-defense. Train Krav Maga.

Krav Maga training teaches, trains, and prepares you for every single one of the aspects involved in the attacks and more. Training Krav Maga will increase you awareness. It teaches you how to deal with a punch or haymaker and will prepare you mentally and physically for surprise attacks. And has techniques that will allow you to prevent and defend sexual assaults. We train how to deal with multiple attackers and much more.

Krav Maga education and training is like a health insurance policy:
“You never want to have to use it, but if you need it you don’t want to be without it!” – says Impact Krav Maga’s chief instructor Yury Sigal.

We often hear, from men as well as women, statements such as “That will never happen to me!” or “I would never put myself in those situations!” It’s great to know that some of you are aware and conscious of potential dangerous situations. But let us ask ourselves “Do you really think any of the 7 women attacked in these recent events ever thought they would face such brutal attacks one day?” Do you think that the walking around your neighborhood at 9:30 pm is putting yourself in a bad situation?

Most importantly, what do you have to lose by training Krav Maga and learning how to defend yourself?
