1. What are Impact’s instructor’s qualifications?
- Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense is the only instructor team in San Diego to have earned their instructor certifications directly under Eyal Yanilov (the developer of modern Krav Maga and highest ranked Krav Maga practitioner and instructor in the world).
- Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense instructors are required to continue their Krav Maga training to maintain Active Instructor qualifications. We don’t simply rely on in-house training that is shielded from expert review. Instructors routinely train directly under Eyal Yanilov and other self-defense and combat specialists and were among the first Krav Maga Global instructors in North America to be awarded the rank of Experts directly by Mr. Yanilov.
- Furthermore, both Yury and Veronica have been selected by Eyal Yanilov to represent Krav Maga Global in North America as members of a select team of instructors in charge of spreading Krav Maga across the continent and training and developing future Krav Maga Global instructors.

2. How is Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense different from other Krav Maga programs?
- First, Impact is not a “program”; we are a school for people who want ongoing Krav Maga education. We don’t sell false confidence at the end of short programs; we provide technical and tactical training that educates students on how to survive violent street attacks.
- Second, Impact is dedicated to providing the most realistic Krav Maga training available. This means that we teach you how to respond to what you are most likely to see in the street.
- Also, we utilize the most current research-supported instructional methodologies available. For example, research indicates that deep learning comes from applying a developing skill in a variety of contexts. Therefore, we do not subject students to rote memorization drills or other outdated approaches to teaching. We teach students how to think, not just how to go through the motions.
- Further, our school offers the most current, up-to-date Krav Maga techniques and strategies that are continuously tested, proven, and updated by Eyal Yanilov.
- Most importantly, our school is not for people with “big egos”. We have created a supportive family type of environment where students not only learn valuable life saving skills while getting fitter and stronger, but do so while having fun, build new friendships and improve their confidence, which translates to all aspects of their personal life.

3. Does Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense have a uniform?
- Yes, as part of Krav Maga Global, we adhere to the KMG basic uniform requirement. We require all students to wear an Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense t-shirt; however, you may wear whatever bottoms you want. We recommend long sweats but allow shorts, yoga pants, or whatever else you’re comfortable training in. Please wear comfortable athletic shoes or mat shoes inside the school.

4. How long until I’m able to use the skills I learn in class?
- Impact’s goal for all of our students is to walk out of class better prepared to defend themselves than when they walked in. This means that we expect all students to get something useful out of every class that they can use immediately. Of course, there is a difference between learning something and becoming proficient at using it, and proficiency takes practice (experience).
- Therefore, while we provide the teaching, students who wish to progress must commit to getting experience (practice). Students who come to class often and work hard while they are here will get experience in a controlled environment and can expect to progress in relation to their efforts.

5. At what fitness level do I need to be?
- Krav Maga is designed to be used by everyone, regardless of physical attributes. Given the physical nature of the training, some level of agility, strength and coordination is preferred. The more you train, the more you develop these attributes along with your self-defense skills. With more experience you will push yourself further with each class and the Instructors will be there to motivate you.

6. Am I too old for Krav Maga? Am I too young?
- Probably not. We accept students 15 years old and up (if less than 18 years old with parental and instructor permission) into our general classes, and have trained with students in their 60’s.
- The class is physically challenging, but everyone is free to work at their own pace. Having said that, we do not have a “high end” restriction. There will be some students who want to train hard, and we encourage that. We also have students who haven’t done physical exercise in a long time and are getting back into it slowly. We also encourage that. We accommodate students of all intensity levels. Whether you want to train hard or ease into it, there will be students with whom you can work.
- Please contact us or visit our Kids&Teens Krav Maga page, if you are interested in our Kids (6-10 years old) or Teens (11-15 years old) programs.

7. How much individual instruction will I receive?
- Depending on the day and time, you can expect an instructor-student ratio of around 8 to 1, which will allow for a significant amount of direct interaction.
- If you want more personalized training, students can take advantage of our “open mat” or private training options. (See below.)

10. What kind of protective equipment will I need?
- Men are required to wear groin protection. We strongly recommend that all students wear a mouth guard and hand wraps. Some students also choose to wear forearm and shin guards.
- Protective equipment is required for all students participating in the Full Contact classes, including shin guards, boxing gloves, hand wraps, and headgear, as well as groin protection and mouth guard.
- We provide discounted equipment; contact us for details. If you have your own equipment, please have an instructor inspect it before using it in class.

11. Are there ranks in Krav Maga and will I be tested?
- Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense follows Krav Maga Global (KMG) internationally recognized ranking system. The ranks are structured into five Practitioner levels, five Graduate levels, and Expert levels.
- Based on 3-4 hours of training per week, the usual pace for advancement is about 6 months between practitioner ranks. However, instructors will regularly evaluate and invite students to test based on their abilities. Students with previous experience in Krav Maga or other combat systems, or those who train more frequently than 3-4 hours/week, may be tested at a faster pace. Essentially, students can expect to advance in relation to the time and effort they put in.
- Upon satisfactory completion of a test, students will receive an official KMG patch and diploma denoting their accomplishment.

12. What are the Krav Maga classes like?
- The short answer is: “our classes are varied”. Although they follow a general format (short warm-up, learn techniques, apply techniques) you will not be doing the same thing over and over. We teach techniques through a variety of contexts, including simulated street conditions, so students really learn to use the techniques, not just go through the motions.
- The primary goal of each class is to build our students’ life-saving skills and give them the necessary tools to defend themselves and their loved ones during a violent street attack. But in the course of each class, all students can be expected to be challenged physically and with time see improvement in their cardiovascular conditioning, strength, flexibility and endurance.
- In Full Contact classes students will learn valuable striking and fighting techniques, as well as strategy and tactics. Students will get a chance to apply Krav Maga techniques in the context of light fighting and full contact drills.
