Krav Maga is not a competitive martial art; it is a combat system developed and tested on the battlefield and the street. It is a no-nonsense, reality based self-defense system that is designed to efficiently deal with violent street confrontations.
Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense is a school for people who want ongoing Krav Maga education. It is the only school in the San Diego County that is an affiliate of Krav Maga Global (KMG), an Israeli Federation headed by Eyal Yanilov, the highest ranked Krav Maga Instructor in the world and the founder of modern Krav Maga.
Our instructors are certified by Eyal Yanilov himself, and continue their professional training under his tutelage and the leadership of Alan Predolin, the North American KMG Director. Impact’s instructors adhere to the professional and training standards of KMG, and are therefore tested regularly to ensure highest standard of instructions for the students.
We are dedicated to providing the most realistic Krav Maga training available. We therefore teach most current, up-to-date Krav Maga techniques and strategies that are continuously tested, proven, and updated by Eyal Yanilov and the Krav Maga Global (KMG) Global Instructor Team. We utilize the most current research-supported instructional methodologies available. Therefore, we do not subject students to rote memorization drills or other outdated approaches to teaching. We teach students how to think, not just how to go through the motions. We offer a safe and friendly training environment, a small student to instructor ratio and a serious approach to self-defense. We provide technical and tactical training that educates students on how to survive violent street attacks.
How long until I’m able to use the skills I learn in class?
Impact’s goal for all of our students is to walk out of class better prepared to defend themselves than when they walked in. This means that we expect all students to get something useful out of every class that they can use immediately. Of course, there is a difference between learning something and becoming proficient at using it, and proficiency takes practice and experience. However, since Krav Maga is designed to be learned quickly and efficiently, on average students start seeing significant results after only a couple of months of training.
When can I join?
Anytime. No need to wait. We have rolling admission and have students joining on a regular basis.
How do I register?
Students who wish to register can come to the school during our scheduled class times and sign up. See our Registration Page for more information. Also you can Contact Us for further instructions.
Does Impact Krav Maga Self-Defense have a uniform?
We adhere to the KMG basic uniform requirement. We require all students to wear an Impact t-shirt; however, you may wear whatever bottoms you want. We recommend long sweats but allow shorts, yoga pants, or whatever else you’re comfortable training in. Please wear comfortable athletic shoes or mat shoes inside the school.
Men are required to wear groin protection. We strongly recommend that all students wear a mouth guard, and we suggest students wear hand wraps. Some students also choose to wear forearm and shin guards.
Can I come watch a class?
Yes, of course. Even better take a free class! We offer free community workouts on Saturdays at 11:30am.
Do you offer full contact classes?
Absolutely! Our striking and conditioning classes are a great supplement to Krav Maga or can be taken as an independent course. Students will learn Krav Maga striking and fighting techniques, strategy and tactics and participate in high intensity full contact fighting drills. Headgear, gloves, mouthguard, and shin guards are required and are available for purchase at the school at discounted prices. In addition, full contact drills become a routine part of the more advanced Krav Maga training. See our Classes page for more details about Striking and Conditioning classes and Contact Us for more information.
Am I physically ready for Krav Maga?
Krav Maga is designed to be used by everyone, regardless of sex or physical attributes. Krav Maga emphasizes proper technique, principles and mindset to avoid, de-escalate or terminate violent confrontation. Little is dependent on shear power and strength. Obviously as you train, you will improve your strength, conditioning, coordination and flexibility. Instructors are around to help and motivate you, but ultimately you decide how much to push yourself. Just let us know if you have pre-existing injuries. We can adapt every exercise and technique to work for you.
